Crowborough, Sussex is a beautiful rural town set in East Sussex. Home of the outstanding Crowborough Beacon golf course. The Crowborough Beacon is nearly 800ft above sea level and holds breathtaking views of the South Downs. Our army camp still stands today and was initially established during the First World War! We have our own Crowborough Hospital which is in fact a war memorial hospital, and within the Crowborough Hospital is the locally famous Crowborough Birthing Centre. The Crowborough Birthing centre is open 24 hours a day and run by a team of dedicated and experienced midwifes.
Crowborough history includes, possibly most famously, being known as one of the homes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In the early 1900's Sir Arthur moved to Windlesham in Crowborough, which remains today. He is best known as being the creator of Sherlock Holmes, and he also wrote numerous novels and poems. Sir Arthur passed away at Windlesham 7th July 1930, and was buried in the grounds. His Wife passed away almost 10 years later and was buried next to him. In 1955, grounds were sold. Sir Arthur and his Wife, Lady Jean Conan Doyle, were taken and reburied at All Saints Church in the New Forest, Hampshire.
